Recidivism

I been in jail many a time
They used to say I did too much crime
Now they say I recidivate
To me it’s just the same old fate

An ism is an ism and a prison is a prison
Recidivism is a nasty word
It must be nasty cause everyone agrees
Recidivism is a bad disease

First time was fine, no cause to malign
Second time  was a bad sign
Third time I crossed the line
Now they want to save me from a life of crime

They want to save me from a life of crime
They preach and tell me I’ll be fine
They say my life won’t be a waste
They got me in a program that’s evidence based

The funding source wants to be sure
I’m going to get a proven cure
So they specify achievable goals
And they extol the goals that they control

An ism is an ism and a prison is a prison
Recidivism is a source of funds
Don’t pro rata my data when my treatment’s done
Shine my data you’ll get more funds

Now they try to teach me wrong from right
I go along just to be polite
I look so good on their data sheet
Statistical proof is hard to beat

Clinical trials are hard to beat
Proof is proof of no deceit
But I think the teacher do better than me
He go home at night and he get a fee

An ism is an ism and a prison is a prison
Recidivism is a curable disease
Linguistical, logistical, statistical proof
Don’t let truth confute the proof

Now there’s one more thing I got to say
I’m gonna say my piece and be on my way
Justice aint blind to class and race
That’s one thing that’s evidence based

An ism is an ism and a prison is a prison
Isms are the prisons of our minds
Every ism that’s arisen has promised us grace
But isms breed schisms     that’s evidence based

I served my sentence and my treatment’s done
I got to say it’s been more than fun
So long now I got to go
When you find out how I’m doing please let me know
